National Eating Disorders Collaboration

Professor Hay is an Academic Psychiatrist and leading mental health researcher in eating disorders.

In 2015 she received the Lifetime Leadership Award from the ANZ Academy for Eating Disorders, and in 2020 she was awarded the RANZCP Senior Research Award. She is widely published and cited. She has extensive community engagement and is current Chair of the steering committee for the National Eating Disorders Collaboration. Her research has been translational and guided policy and practice. It has informed the most recent estimates of worldwide burden of eating and has informed clinical practice and other national and international treatment guidelines, several of which she has led or otherwise directly contributed to, and also the international understanding of the conceptualisation of disorders, in particular in her role on the World Health Organisation 2019 International Classification of Disease eleventh revision eating disorder working group. She also instigated the introduction of the first open access journal in her respected research area (Journal of Eating Disorders) and is its current Co-Editor-in-Chief.
