One of the ways to help a person recover from an eating disorder is to be supported by someone who has recovered. Peer workers use their recovery story from an eating disorder to provide this support, alongside health professionals.

The recent royal commission into Victoria's mental health system highlighted the need for peer workers and has called for this workforce to be employed across services.

Eating Disorders Victoria has employed peer workers through their peer mentoring program for over 6 years, therefore, we have an understanding of what is needed to advance this workforce.

Over the next six months we are developing a digital learning platform for peer workers employed in the program, with the aim of increasing their skills and knowledge. This will benefit not only peer workers but those they support, their families and the community.
