Early identification

How can GPs & other Heath Professionals better identify disordered eating and the symptoms of all stages of all types of eating disorders, and intervene appropriately as part of routine practice?

It is possible to fully recover from an eating disorder, however early identification is vital in order to get someone the support they need. Unfortunately, many individuals with eating disorders remain undiagnosed and untreated. Research into improving detection and clinician diagnostic skill is extremely limited. Innovative empirical research is needed to address significant individual and health-system barriers currently preventing appropriate and timely intervention for many.

Research can transform people's lives.

The Australian Eating Disorders Research and Translation Centre is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the National Leadership in Mental Health program.

Lead Agency, InsideOut Institute for Eating Disorders, is a joint venture between the Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney
