Dr Sarah Squire

Head of Knowledge, Research and Policy at Butterfly Foundation.

At Butterfly Foundation, Sarah manages the research, policy and government relations portfolio, along with leading Butterfly’s lived experience engagement. Her work at Butterfly is informed by her learned experience in research, policy development and program management, alongside her lived experience of an eating disorder. Sarah has held several leadership roles in government and non-government organisations over the last 20 years. These include working as the Head of the Women’s Research, Advocacy and Policy Centre at Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, and leading Beyond Blue’s programs supporting perinatal, parent, children, youth, and older adult mental health. Roles in the government sector include leading the Violence Prevention Coordination Unit at the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, and the Women’s Policy Development Unit at the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.   

Sarah has also worked in policy and research roles at the Australian Human Rights Commission where she supported the work of two Sex Discrimination Commissioners.  

Sarah holds a PhD in Women’s Studies and BA (First Class Honours) from La Trobe University.
